Privacy Policy

Twelv · Last updated: August 2026

Twelv is pre-launch. This policy covers our website and waitlist today, and describes the Twelv service as designed. It is under legal review and will be finalized before any child creates an account.

Twelv is a paid, family-first social platform built to be a child's first social account. Privacy is not a feature of Twelv — it is the reason Twelv exists. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what we will never do.

Who we are

Twelv is operated by an Ontario, Canada corporation. Our privacy officer is Mike Sark, reachable at privacy@twelv.com.

The short version

We collect the minimum needed to run the service. There are no ads on Twelv, so nothing you or your child does here is used for advertising. We do not sell or rent personal information — anyone's, ever. We do not build profiles of children. You are the customer, not the product.

What we collect — waitlist

If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address, your city, your child's school, and your child's grade. We use this only to organize launch groups of families who already know each other, and to email you about Twelv (with your consent — see "Email" below). If you arrived through a friend's invite link, we record that referral. Our waitlist form is processed by Formspree, which stores submissions on our behalf.

What we collect — the Twelv app (at launch)

Twelv has not launched and collects nothing from children today. When it launches, this section will describe exactly what the app collects. As designed:

From parents: a verified email address (which also records your consent for your child's account), subscription status, and your consent decisions. Payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or our web payment processor; we never see or store your card number.

From children (with verified parental consent): a username, profile photos and videos, the child's connections, posts, and private replies. We will collect the minimum needed to run the service, and this section will be finalized with counsel before launch to match the shipped product exactly.

Automatically: basic technical logs (device type, app version, error reports) needed to keep the service running and secure. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

Children's privacy

Twelv is designed for children under 13, which means U.S. COPPA and Canadian privacy law apply directly to how we operate — and we built the product around them.

Consent. A child's account is created only with a parent's verified consent. During the free trial, consent is recorded through the parent's verified email address. When the trial ends, the parent's deliberate subscription decision — made with full disclosure of what we collect and why — serves as verifiable parental consent. The exact consent wording is being finalized with counsel before launch.

Your rights as a parent. At any time you may: review the personal information we hold about your child, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent and stop further collection (which closes the account). To exercise these rights, contact privacy@twelv.com from your verified consent email. We will never make a child's participation conditional on collecting more information than the service needs.

Separate accounts. Parent and child accounts are fully separate on the platform. They are linked only by a private consent record in our systems — never visibly in the app.

How we use information

To operate the service (accounts, connections, feeds, replies); to process subscriptions; to keep the platform safe (abuse prevention, security); to organize launch cohorts; to meet legal obligations. That is the complete list. We do not use personal information for advertising, and we do not use children's data to train recommendation or profiling systems — Twelv has no algorithmic feed.

What we never do

No ads. No selling or renting personal information. No data brokers. No behavioral profiling of children. No public metrics. No third-party trackers in the app.

Sharing

We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf under contract (hosting, waitlist form processing, payment processing, email delivery), and where required by law. Service providers may store data in Canada or the United States. Current processors for the website: Formspree (waitlist form) and our hosting provider. App processors (Apple, payment and email providers) will be listed here at launch.

Retention and deletion

We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the service. Waitlist information is deleted on request at any time — email privacy@twelv.com. Specific retention periods for the app (including how long data is held after a trial ends, and backup deletion timelines) will be published here before launch.

Email (CASL)

We send commercial email only with your express consent, collected when you join the waitlist or create an account. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is immediate. Invitations to Twelv are sent by parents themselves as share links — Twelv never emails your contacts.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege access to children's data. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.

Your rights (all users)

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting privacy@twelv.com. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in the U.S., the Federal Trade Commission.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that affects how we handle children's information, we will notify parents at their verified consent email and, where the law requires, obtain fresh consent before the change applies.
